“In order to take steps up in certain kinds of mediums, I have to become this kind of dark and gritty character. “When I’m auditioning, I’m constantly aware of what kind of roles are put in front of me, and I just noticed a lot of stuff comes up where it’s like, okay this guy is a gangster, this guy is a thug and after a while you start to go ‘oh, my God, what is out there? Is there any kind of positive representation on TV for us?’” Hayes said. Hayes, who is known for his work on Sesame Street, described how acting roles would often limit him to certain types of characters, while puppetry allowed him to push against that. The latter half of the hour long discussion regarding the differences the artists had noticed between the face forward acting world and the puppetry world. So my goal as a puppet artist teaching artists is to bring the STEAM disciplines to kids through the art of puppetry,” “Because, if someone had showed me you could use this program to make your dolls move when I was a kid, I would have paid more attention to those math classes. “What I saw in that experience was I can inspire kids who would never think of themselves as robot scientists to be interested in puppets,” Richards said. Richards continued on to talk about how her experience at Tech and playing with different software has led her to integrate technology and artistry into her teaching. I’m also hanging out with the Decatur Makers with people that play with Arduino and I’m like ‘oh, that’s how they made this movie.’ So from there I started making my own animatronic puppets.” “So I was reading all of this cutting edge research from every scientific discipline at the university, and as a volunteer at the Center for Puppetry Arts, I was working in the Hansen gallery next to all these cool robotic puppets and it started to click that this is what my students were doing. “ I taught a class where I guided students through their undergraduate thesis,” Richards said. Joe action figures, spoke on the technical side of puppetry. Richards, a puppeteer and former Tech professor who got her start making stop motion art with Barbie dolls and G.I. When I built that first puppet a friend of mine gave me the movie ‘Being John Malkovich’ and I popped it into my VCR and watched that opening scene and I said ‘this is something I want to do.’” “I was doing these abstract sculptures and that led me to building my first puppet and putting clothes on it and moving it around,” Pipkins said.” So I tripped and fell into puppetry. Pipkins, also known by his artist name Jeghetto, referenced his love of horror and science fiction films such as “Gremlins” and “Predator” as his introduction to puppetry. With that context in mind, the conversation shifted towards the panels’ journey to becoming puppeteers and actors, with many citing the ways pop culture led them to appreciating the art of puppetry. The area of Egypt is believed to be where puppets originated from.” I believe it was as early as 1829 was the first documented puppetry and we know there was probably puppetry long before that because puppetry was huge, and storytelling was a big part of the oral tradition of Africa. “Many people may not know that there was puppetry in Africa long before the European colonization,” Harrison said. The discussion kicked off with Harrison framing the conversation with the long tradition of African puppetry. Renee Clark, Chris Thomas Hayes, Tarish Pipkins, Spencer Stephens and Paulette Richards. The all-star panel, hosted by Brian Harrison of the Center for Puppetry Arts, featured S. While Henson has traditionally served as the face of modern puppetry arts, Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts shone the spotlight on the history of Black and African puppetry during a conversation with notable Black theater artists on Feb. For many, the world of puppetry arts has become synonymous with Jim Henson, the puppeteer responsible for creating and voicing Kermit the Frog.

We found it to be very simple and easy to use as well during testing, benefitting from a clean yet visually appealing interface with plenty of options. Still, if you’re looking for a free torrent client, uTorrent is a great option – could be a good choice if you're new to torrenting and want a client that will give you an easy introduction. You might be wondering why BitTorrent has its own torrent client when it also maintains uTorrent – especially when the BitTorrent app is a rebranded version of uTorrent.Īre you still following us? However, while the apps are functionally identical there are a few key differences: BitTorrent offers web-based seeding, commenting and reviewing, and you may find that the BitTorrent client is welcomed by private trackers that don't like uTorrent. To let you find out more about each pick, we've even included links to our reviews. That includes considering user experience, bloatware, or ads, which you can sometimes circumvent with some of the best VPNs for torrenting and even integration with other apps. Luckily, there are excellent free torrent clients out there, offering their downloading services without charging you a single penny. That's due to the fact that the client will grab parts of that file from multiple sources and simultaneously download those different bits, then put the file together like a jigsaw to use. On the other hand, a torrent client makes faster download speeds and shorter download times possible. Have the patient turn their head to the left, then examine the jugular vein. The patient needs to be at a 45 degree angle for proper evaluation gravity lessens JVP if upright and increases JVP if supine. When a patient is fluid-overloaded, the right heart pressures increase and transmit back to the jugular vein, causing jugular venous distention. The jugular venous pressure is a quick way to assess volume status. Observe jugular venous pressure, jugular venous distension. This means a patient can be volume-overloaded without any pitting edema at all, which is why using all these steps are important. Some patients with decompensated heart failure just don’t seem to retain fluid in the legs ― especially the younger patients, who may retain fluid more centrally. But if you examined the patient 1 month ago, and you see the legs are bigger, that will work fine. If you see that diagnosis on the chart, then don’t use pitting edema alone as a measure of volume status. A patient’s legs can be the size of tree trunks with skin breakdown and weeping of fluid just from venous insufficiency. Venous insufficiency can also cause pitting edema and is quite common. Sounds simple, right? Although the presence of pitting edema may be a sign of heart failure, it is not a perfect method to determine if a patient’s symptoms are from volume overload. Note that orthopnea is different than platypnea. Ask what position the patient sleeps in if on 3 to 4 pillows or up in a recliner, then be concerned that he or she has decompensated heart failure. Orthopnea, the sensation of dyspnea while laying flat, occurs when fluid redistributes to the lungs from the abdomen or legs ― because when upright gravity acts to pull fluid away from the lungs. Ask about orthopnea, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea. Some other conditions can cause fluid retention and weight gain including liver failure (ascites) and renal failure. Attentive heart failure patients should monitor their weight and document it on a daily bases. Ask the patient if they watch their weight. Look through the chart or office visits to find the most recent weight to compare to the current. If the patient has gained 40 pounds in a month, it is probably fluid, and they have decompensated heart failure. Hopefully, this information will be available, as it can sometimes easily solve the problem. If structural heart abnormalities including reduced ejection fraction or left ventricular hypertrophy already exist, patients are classified as Stage B even if they have never had definite symptoms. hypertension, coronary artery disease, etc. The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Heart Failure Classification categorizes patients with risk factors for HF ― i.e. This means that it’s always important to not only view the patient as if he or she has congestive HF, but also look at the most recent echocardiograms or other testing to see what the systolic and diastolic function looks like.Įven if the patient does not have a history or direct evidence of congestive HF, risk factors should be considered. Consider history of HF, risk factors for congestive HF.Ĭertainly, a patient with a history of congestive heart failure is more likely to be volume-overloaded from this cause than other issues, right? That is correct. Steven Lome Is Decompensated Congestive Heart Failure Present?Īre the patient’s symptoms from heart failure, or are they pulmonary in etiology? Are the physical exam findings cardiac, or are they from other causes? Wouldn’t it be nice if this was a simple question to answer? Let's look at how we can tell if a patient is volume-overloaded from heart failure in 10 steps. Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.
